Gwendolyn V. Fritz, 91, of 500 Second St. NW, Epworth, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Ennoble Manor in Dubuque. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Reiff Funeral Home in Epworth. Services for Gwendolyn will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at the funeral home in Epworth, with Pastor Roger White presiding. Musician is Kari Feldmann. Burial will be at Giard Cemetery, rural Garnavillo.
She was born May 18, 1923, in McGregor, Iowa, daughter of Walter and Bertha (Thompson) Zahn. She received her education in the Farmersburg and Monona area schools. On Feb. 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harvey C. Fritz in St. Olaf. She was employed as a cook for the Western Dubuque school system for 23 years.
She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Beverly McCollough of Garnavillo, Donna Brown of Dubuque, Karen Fritz of Dubuque and Mary Peterson of Epworth; a daughter-in-law, Susan Fritz of Syracuse, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey C. Fritz, on Aug. 3, 1998; two sons, Gary Fritz in infancy and John Fritz on March 24, 2006; one brother, Frederick Zahn Sr.; and two sons-in-law, Paul Brown and Richard McCollough.
A Gwendolyn V. Fritz memorial fund has been established.
