Gwendlyn "Gwen" Marie Meyerhoff, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away of cancer on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at Mercy Hallmar. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Marques Nelson. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Gwendlyn was born Feb. 4, 1944, on the farm near Readlyn, Iowa, to parents William E. Meyerhoff and Leona Orth Meyerhoff. She attended school in Readlyn and graduated from Wapsie Valley Community School, Fairbank, in 1962. After graduation, she attended State College of Iowa (UNI) for one year, Gates Business College, Waterloo, and Kaplan University, Cedar Rapids, receiving degrees in business/accounting. Her work career started at Municipal Utilities, Cedar Falls, for 1 ½ years. She then moved to Cedar Rapids, working for Iowa National Mutual Insurance for 20 years, Mutual Fire and Automobile Insurance Company for 16 years and PRC for six years. After retirement, Gwen was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program and also a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.
Gwen enjoyed bowling, golf, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and decorating her place for all the holidays and hosting parties for them.
She is survived by her brothers, Mervin Meyerhoff of Waterloo and Donald (Marilyn) Meyerhoff of Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Elaine Finger of Iowa City; nephews, Leslie (Teresa) Finger and Gregory (Kristi) Finger, all of Iowa City, Javon (Rene) Meyerhoff of Excelsior, Minn., and Brian (Laura) Meyerhoff of Camus, Wash.; great-nephews, Brett (Emma) Finger of Grimes and Mitchell Finger of Iowa City; and great-nieces, Rachel and Mackenzie Finger of Iowa City and Ava Meyerhoff of Camus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Alton Finger; and special friend, Frances Mason.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society and Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church.
