Gudenkauf, Mae C.
Mae C. Gudenkauf, 97, of Dyersville, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a vigil service will be held at 3 p. m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Mae was born June 20, 1915, in Sand Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Marion (Egan) Slauson. She married Joseph Gudenkauf on Jan. 11, 1937, in Sand Springs. Together they farmed in the Worthington area until their retirement in 1975.
Mae was a loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to play cards and attend Daniel O'Donnell concerts.
Survivors include three sons, Robert (Mary Jane) Gudenkauf and Arden (Jane) Gudenkauf, both of Dyersville, and Ron (Alice) Gudenkauf of New Vienna; two daughters, Elaine (Joe) Weber of Dyersville and Marion (LeRoy) Hildebrand of Earlville; 28 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Louis (Juanita) Slauson of Strawberry Point, Marie Stevens of Oelwein, Joyce Tenley of Anamosa and Donald (Mary) Slauson of Elma, Wash.; and brothers- and-sisters-in-law, Jane Slauson of Webster City, Vernon (Madonna) Gudenkauf of Dubuque and Gladys Faber of Cascade.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph in 1999; a grandson, Gary Hildebrand in 1987; a great-grandson, Dennis Gudenkauf; brothers and sisters, Harry Slauson, Duane Slauson, Velma (John) White and Grace (Louis) Gudenkauf; and brothers- and-sisters-in-law, Louis Stevens, Russell Tenley, Walter (Lucinda) Gudenkauf, Clara (Frank) Heims, Erma (Reynold) Becker, Catherine (Irvin) Recker, Anna (Carl) Weber, Bernadette (Lawrence) Kurt and Harold Faber.
