Grout, Janice Jean
Janice Jean Grout, 71, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Dr. T. Edwards Breed, Vicar Divaker Pathak and the Rev. Mark Kukkonen will officiate with entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Janice was born Dec. 12, 1938, on her parents Roger and Bernice Pearson's farm near Postville, Iowa, and passed away in her sleep on Feb. 6, 2010 in her home. Jan graduated from Luana High School in 1956.
Jan and Marvin were married on July 3, 1970, in Marion, Iowa. Survivors include her husband, Marvin; son, Mark (Tammy) Graybill of Rochester, Minn.; sister, Judy (Lyle) Boebel of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michael Monahan, Stephanie Graybill, Christopher (Sohkeng) Graybill, Aaron Graybill of Rochester, Minn., and Kayla Grout of West Virginia; great-grandchildren, Liheng Graybill, and Isaiah Monahan of Rochester, Minn.; nephews, Larry (Gina) Boebel of Swisher, and James Boebel of Cedar Rapids; great-nephews, Nathan, Kory and Brandon Boebel; great-niece, Lindy Boebel; stepchildren, Tom Grout of West Virginia and Paige Grout of Cedar Rapids; brothers-in-law, Donald (Helen) of Creston, Dale (Jean) of Riverside, Calif., Harold (Pearl) of Mount Ayr, Charles of Newton, Ken (La Donna) of Cedar Rapids, Ron (Nancy) of Des Moines, and Robert of Berwick; and sister-in-law, Ruth (John) Hoy of Adel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Bernice Pearson.
Jan was employed by various companies such as Bell Telephone Co., Collins Radio, Skelgas and retired from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Jan loved music, starting with the clarinet and piano in high school and playing the piano and organ mostly for church activities, and singing in her church choir and Midwest Chorale. She was a member of the Voices of Hope during Freedom Festival. Jan enjoyed bowling and golf leagues. Jan gave freely of her time by volunteering at Community Free Health Clinic and various church activities and service projects. Jan enjoyed other leisure activities including yoga at the Fusion Yoga Studio and trips with her husband with a travel club. Jan enjoyed her walks outside and feeding the birds on her back deck. Jan was a devout Christian, showing Christ-like love for everyone she knew and encountered.
A memorial fund has been established to benefit the Community Free Health Clinic.
