Gross, Phyllis J.
Phyllis J. Gross, 79, of Cascade, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at 2:35 a.m. at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Phyllis may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Services for Phyllis will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Assisting will be Deacon Steven Strang. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Phyllis was born Oct. 13, 1930, on the family farm in rural Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Aloysius and Olivia (Loes) Strang. She received her education at St. Martin's High School, Cascade. She was united in marriage to Albert A. Gross on July 26, 1949, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade.
She was employed by Dr. Malloy, Ensign Coil Co. and served as vice president of Cascade State Bank, from where she retired. She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.
She is survived by three children, Cindy (Dave) Glynn of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Alan) Manternach of Cascade and Bruce (Karen) Gross of Toddville; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad) Oelberg, Stephanie (James) Gross, Jason (Angie) Glynn, Amanda (Matt) Pauly, Michaela (Mike) Otting, Danelle (Mike) Tigges, Alana (Joe) Kennedy, Collin Gross and Hailey Gross; 15 great-grandchildren, Will, Laura, Ella and Samantha Otting, Brett, Devin, Jaelyn, Riley, and Taylor Tigges, Sydney, Peyton and Brady Kennedy, Allyson and Meaghan Gross and Jackson Pauly; brothers and sisters, Tom Strang of Manchester, Jane Greenwood of Monticello, Al (Evedeen) Strang of Cascade, Rosie Turnis of Cedar Rapids, John (Lavonne) Strang of Cascade and Steve (Nancy) Strang of Cascade; two brothers-in-law, Frank (Kathleen) Gross of Farmington, N.M., and Pete Gross of Denver, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Ella Gross of Cascade.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Gross on June 2, 2009; parents; a sister, Winona M. Schlemme; and a brother, Bruce Strang.
A Phyllis J. Gross memorial fund has been established.
