Griswold, Gail A.

Gail G. Griswold was born March 21, 1917, on a farm northeast of Winthrop, Iowa. She was the daughter of William E. and Anna Christensen Griswold.

Attending rural school through seventh grade, she graduated from Winthrop High School in 1934 as class valedictorian. She worked at the local grocery store until 1950, then became the Winthrop Postal Clerk and retired in 1987.

Gail was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ United, Women's Fellowship, Winthrop Commercial Club, Women's Literary Club and Buchanan County Health Auxiliary. She was a former active member of the Winthrop Chapter of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron.

Gail lived in Winthrop most of her life until moving to Prairie Hills Assisted Living Center and then to Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care, both in Independence.

At the age of 95 years, Gail entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Gerald during World War II; and her sister, Wilda Dennie in 1987.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, at the church with Pastor Dean Schlitter officiating and Don and Anita Bowden providing the music. Casketbearers will be Gerald Dennie, Terry Dennie, Chad Dennie, Roger Donnelly, Andy Loop, Dan Sperfslage and Dave McLaren. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Winthrop.
