Grimm, Betty
Betty Grimm, 76, of Central City, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Pastor Cecil Ballard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery in Coggon.
Survivors include three children, Nile (Deb) Mentzer Jr. of Central City, Sandra (Rodney) Moyer of Central City and Nelson (Dawn) Mentzer of Springville; five stepchildren, Ivan Grimm of Tama, Cecilia (Pat) Michael of Vinton, Carma (Andrew) Burrows of Worthington, Mo., Brenda (Lee) Heims of Cedar Rapids and Lorena (Jergade) Poyner of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Kerper of Marion, Malissa (Joey) Tuttle of Cedar Rapids, Anthony Mentzer of Central City and Michael Mentzer of Springville; five stepgrandchildren, Brooke Ritter of Hiawatha, Brian (Janie) Michael of Blaine, Minn., Brandon Michael of Vinton, Alisha Lindsey of Kansas City, Mo. and Diedre Lindsey of Warrenton, Mo.; three great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Howard (Joyce) and Kenny (Connie) Kessinger; and a sister, Anita Young, all of Kentucky.
Betty was born Jan. 21, 1937, the daughter of Walter and Ruby (Cole) Kessinger in Indiana. They moved to Kentucky where she grew up. She married Nile Mentzer in 1957, he died in 1972. She married Wayne Grimm in 1983. He died in 2008. Betty worked at the Abbe Center for Community Care for 21 years before retiring in 2004.
She loved being outdoors, gardening, music and animals.
