Greiner, Harold L.
Harold L. Greiner, 83, of Iowa City, former longtime resident of Sigourney, died at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 415 East Pleasant Valley St., Sigourney, with Father Bernie Wehr officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home, 105 N. Jefferson St., Sigourney, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.
He was born Jan. 14, 1926, in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Mathias Raymond and Luanna S. (Gross) Greiner. He married Dorothy M. Shannon in Sigourney on April 22, 1948. He graduated from Webster High School class of 1943. He was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Sigourney, and member of St. Patrick Church, Iowa City, past president of St. Mary parish council, past president of Keokuk County Pork Producers, past Lions Club member and member of Keokuk County Farm Bureau. Harold farmed his entire life north of Sigourney, semi-retiring in 1983 and living on the farm until one year ago when he and Dorothy moved to Iowa City.
Harold and Dorothy were able to winter in Arizona for many years and Harold enjoyed when the grandchildren came down and he was able to show them the many sites. He had great faith in God, loved his family and the time he spent with them.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Greiner, Iowa City; son, Larry (Teri) Greiner, Iowa City; daughter, Jane (Gary) Glenn, Ottumwa; son, Steve (Muriel) Greiner, Sigourney; daughters, Sally (Joe) Peiffer, Davis, Ill., and Susan (Todd) Rogers, Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Francis (Judy) Greiner, Sigourney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Edna Eisma.
