Greif, Fay Nicholas
Fay Nicholas Greif, 72, of Coggon, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at home. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at St. John's Catholic Church, Coggon, by Father Wayne Droessler. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City, where a Scripture service will begin at 6 p.m. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Coggon.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; his children, Sandra (Brian) Meyer of Prairieburg, Kathy (Pat) McNamara of Waukon, Janet (Craig) Morrow of Central City, Gary (Kendra) Greif of Central City, Cindy (Mike) Bradley of Manchester, Mark (Cathy) Greif of Central City, and Rick (Angie) Greif of Martelle; grandchildren, Melissa, Jacob Etten of Central City, and Jessica Etten of Prairieburg, Mike (Jenny) McNamara of Postville, Tom and Macy McNamara of Waukon, Billy Morrow of Central City, Aaron, Sarah and Rachel Greif of Central City, Nick Bradley of Manchester, Kayla, Lucas, and Christopher Greif of Central City, and Hannah and Matthew Greif of Martelle; and great-grandchildren, Madilyn and Hayley McNamara of Postville, Lexie McNamara of Waukon, and Annabelle Stegler of Waukon.
He is also survived by his siblings, Teresa (Richard) Stevens of Cedar Rapids, Joseph (Jean) Greif of Coggon, Jeanette (Duane) Freese of Monticello, Earl (Velda) Greif of Coal Valley, Ill., Arnold (Betty) Greif of Central City, and Louis (Marcene) Greif of Cedar Rapids; and sisters-in-law, Elodie Greif of Cedar Rapids, Rita Greif of Marion, and Alvina Greif of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Loras and Robert; a granddaughter, Marcy McNamara; and son-in-law, Russell Etten.
Fay was born Dec. 27, 1939, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the son of Emil and Josephine (Gudenkauf) Greif. He married Lois Koob on July 28, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade. Fay was a farmer, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed taking vacations with his wife, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He especially loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
