Gregory Charles Elvidge, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed on Sept. 5, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Greg was born in Victoria, Texas, on Feb. 6, 1943, to Ronald and Marilda Elvidge.
Greg grew up in Dundee, Iowa, and moved to Colesburg, Iowa. He graduated from Colesburg in the class of 1960. While in high school he was active in sports and music. He was also selected to go to Iowa Boy’s State. He was proud to become an Eagle Scout and worked as a counselor two summers at Klaus Boy Scout Camp. He went into college at ISTC (UNI), UIU and Iowa. Soon after, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosellen (Sampson) Elvidge, on Feb. 15, 1964. Together they had two sons Brandon and Todd. He worked as an accountant for 29 years at Wilson/Farmstead. Upon their closing, he picked up the craft of woodworking.
Greg was an avid duck hunter for many years, developing many lifelong duck hunting friends. He enjoyed being outdoors, canoeing on the boundary waters and fishing in Canada and on Lake Michigan. He also loved to read and tell stories to everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife, Rosellen; his two sons, Brandon (Toni) and Todd of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Hunter (Maddie) Elvidge and Taylor Bahnsen of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Odin and Lola; as well as brothers, Ronald (Bonnie) of Wisconsin and Steve (Deb) of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Nick (Christy) Ross of Solon, AJ (Michelle) Ross of Urbana; and five step-great-grandsons.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Marilda.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 18, at Jones Park, Parkview Pavillion. Casual dress please.
