Gregg Alan Austin, 55, of Cedar Rapids, went to rest after a long battle with aggressive lung cancer on April 19, 2016. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Michael's Catholic Church Columbarium in Glen Allen, Va.
Gregg is survived by his wife, Sue, of 35 years; sons, Chad (Laura) and Alan (Gaoder); daughter, Megan; four grandchildren, Cecilia, Grant, Raina and Lucas; sisters, Kathy (Ron) Hedlund, LuAnn (LeRoy) Orie and Theresa (Doug) Adams; brother, Paul; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Gregg was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Gregg was born Nov. 21, 1960, to Lawrence and Maureen (Dowd) Austin. He graduated from William Byrd High School in Roanoke, Va., and was a loyal alumni of Virginia Tech after earning a degree in agricultural engineering in June 1983. He was united in marriage to Susan Mazak on Feb. 21, 1981. Gregg worked for Terex Corporation as assistant vice president, chief product safety officer.
