Greene, Aletha B.
Aletha B. Greene, 75, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Ladora, died peacefully at home with her family at her side, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, following an extended illness. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Ladora Cemetery, Ladora, with the Rev. Katie Z. Dawson officiating. Friends may call after noon Saturday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
Aletha is survived by her sons, Bruce Slaymaker (Danny) of Mount Vernon, Bob Slaymaker (Joyce) of Hiawatha and Burton Slaymaker (Hope) of Marion; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcella Shaull (Kenneth) of Otto, S.C; and ex-husband, Bill Greene of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marjorie York; two brothers, Edwin and Harley York; her husband, Bert Slaymaker; and her good friend, Iona.
Aletha Bernese York was born April 30, 1934, in Ladora, Iowa, the daughter of Dale Richard and Bernese Beemer York. She attended the Ladora schools. Aletha went to work at Quaker Oats where she was employed for 10 years. She then was employed at Square D, where she retired after 33 years.
Aletha's joys were her family and friends. She looked forward to “Cocktail Hour via telephone” with her many girlfriends. She also enjoyed gardening, birds, her flowers, sewing and many crafts.
Aletha will be greatly missed by her family and special friends, Judy, Diane and Shirley.
