Graves, June L.
June L. Graves, 91, of Iowa City, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
June Lenore Laing was born June 28, 1919, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the daughter of Roy and Ada (Morthland) Laing. Her family moved to Amarillo, Texas, where she graduated from Amarillo High school and Amarillo College. She was united in marriage to Joseph Curtis Graves in 1943; he died a short time later on June 8, 1944. For many years she worked as school secretary for the school district in Amarillo at Horace Mann Junior High. She had lived in Amarillo for many years before moving to Iowa City in 2007 to be nearer her daughter and family.
Her family includes her daughter, Trudy Lemburg and husband Robert of Iowa City; two grandsons, Laurence Curtis Ward and wife Christina and Jeffrey Graves Ward and wife Andrea; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Greyson Ward.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Forest and Roy Marvin Laing.
