Grant E. Higgins, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. A private family service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium. There will be a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
Survivors include a cousin, Heidi (Tim) Hemmis of Cedar Rapids; a great-cousin, Jess; and a good friend, Shelby Folken.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two uncles, Harold and Edward.
Grant was born June 5, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Dorothy (Schoonmaker) Higgins. Grant worked at Quaker Oats in the shipping department and retired from there after more than 25 years of service. Grant graduated from Kennedy High School and was very involved in their athletic programs. He was active in the Boy Scouts and received the Eagle Scout award. Grant enjoyed trains, Clydesdale Horses (The Budweiser Team), and had a very positive and friendly personality. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
