GRACE FIELDER
Cedar Rapids
Grace Fielder, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Danny (Sheila) Arenas, Jody Beltram, Nancy (Russ) Borkowski, David (Mary) Fielder and Mona Fielder; sisters, Mildred Stearns, Florence Lona, Ramona Vasquez and Gloria Kolter; brother, Robert Rodriguez; nine grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Grace was born on April 2, 1921, the daughter of John and Lydia (Saldivar) Rodriguez. She was a graduate of McKinley High School. Grace and her home were the centerpiece of her family. She loved talking to people and hosting special events. There was always Mexican food cooking on the stove so she could feed whoever stopped to visit her. Her work at Killian's department store and as a bartender were mostly so she could socialize. Grace enjoyed gardening and, of course, cooking. She made regular trips with her sisters to area Mexican grocery stores and went shopping locally "with the boys." Her grandchildren especially will miss her love and the time they spent with her. Grace truly lived up to her name with charm and hospitality.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry "Hank" Fielder; sons, John and Stephen; grandson, Justin; brothers, Al, Mike, Rudy and John; and sister, Rosie.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
