Gorsh, Eugene 'Gene'
Eugene “Gene” Gorsh, 75, a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, died March 3, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Janelle; children, Ronald (Karen) Gorsh of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Heather) Gorsh of Desoto, Wis., and Linda Gorsh of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Ross (Sandy) Naughton of Marion; brothers, Fred Gorsh and Ken Gorsh, both of Cedar Rapids; and sister, Sandy Potter of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Lewis Gorsh; and two sisters, Sheila Servoy and Darlene Heck.
Eugene Ronald Gorsh was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Fred L. and Blanche (Pollet) Gorsh. He served his country honorably in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Janelle L. Rogers on Jan. 3, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed as a mechanical contractor for several years at Charipar Plumbing, and later he and Janelle started their own business, Gorsh Service Mechanical. He and Janelle, through their business, sponsored many sports teams and race cars.
Gene was a member of the Local 125 Plumber & Pipefitters Union, Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, VFW, and American Legion. He enjoyed taking trips to the casino, bowling and time spent with his family.
He will be greatly missed.
