Gorsh, Cecil D.
Cecil D. Gorsh, 87, of Victor, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Smith Funeral Home in Victor, with the Rev. Jack Andrews and the Rev. John Sheda officiating. Organist will be Tim Babcock. Vocalists will be Tim Babcock and Jolene Gorsh Babcock. Casket bearers will be Jesse Babcock, Christopher Seiler, Jeff Gorsh, David Johnston, Frank Moore, David Gorsh, Gary Gorsh and Jim Gorsh. Honorary bearers will be Raul Gorsh Meza and E. Ulises Gorsh Meza. Interment will be at Zion Cemetery near Williamsburg. Friends may call at Smith Funeral Home in Victor beginning noon Thursday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Cecil was born Sept. 2, 1924, near Millersburg, Iowa, to Frank and Ethel May (Lacy) Gorsh. He attended Pilot Grove country school near Millersburg. In January 1942, he was married to Trèves Scrandridge in Lancaster, Mo. Following their marriage the couple operated a grain and livestock farm near Millersburg. In 1969, the couple relocated to South America and served as missionaries for five years. Following their mission work the couple moved to Victor and established Cecil Gorsh and Sons Roofing Co. He retired in 1992 and devoted his retirement to his family and the Meadowlark Ministry.
Survivors include his four children, LaVonne (Jerry) Gingerich, Jolene (Tim) Babcock, Stan (Vicky) Gorsh and Tim (Sue) Gorsh; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Vernita Nowotny of Victor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters, Mabel Runyan, Mary Osweiler and Mildred Moore; and six brothers, Vernon, Alford, Russell, Lloyd, Charles and Carrol Gorsh.
