Gordon, Joseph 'Brett'
Joseph “Brett” Gordon, 53, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics due to complications from a basilar artery thrombosis, surrounded by his family.
Brett was born in Iowa City on Feb. 3, 1960, to Lorraine (Hobbs) and John Patrick “Jack” Gordon. A party in his honor will be held at Old Brick (26 E. Market St., Iowa City, on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m.), officiated by Raisin Horn and Veronica Smith.
Brett graduated from Iowa City High and the University of Iowa. He worked tenaciously as facility manager of Old Brick to fulfill Old Brick's mission: to enrich the community as a historic landmark, a gathering place, and home for Episcopal and many benevolent non-profit groups. He also had a passion for a non-profit community radio station.
Brett was a loving brother, uncle and a friend to many.
He is survived by his siblings, Dennis (Jackie) Gordon, David Gordon, Anita (Steve) Puffer and Jim Gordon, all of Iowa City, and Sue (Dan) Engelbercht of Dyersville; sister-in-law, Sue Gordon; nephews, Patrick, Jason, Tim, Hans and Elliot; nieces, Erin, Katy, Marta, Ellie, Joan and Allison; and cousins, Steve Marner and Gail Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lorraine; a sister, Joan Gordon; and a brother, Todd Gordon.
The family gives a special “Thank You” to Dr. Ann Broderick for her loving care.
In lieu of flowers, Brett wished a donation be directed to Old Brick, c/o George Perry, 26 E Market St., Iowa City, IA 52245, to be used as they so direct.
