Gordon Wayne Franck, 78, of Waverly, died Monday morning, Jan. 16, 2017, at the Waverly Health Center.
Gordon was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Benton County, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Dorothy (Peyton) Franck, who farmed near Newhall, Iowa. He was baptized on May 14, 1939, at the Methodist Church, Troy Mills, and confirmed on June 26, 1960, at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall. Gordon graduated from Newhall High School in May 1956. On Aug. 12, 1960, Gordon was united in marriage to Kathleen Ann Gerhold at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall. He was a 1961 graduate of State College of Iowa (now UNI), Cedar Falls.
Gordon taught industrial arts at Delmar and Allison, Iowa. He moved to Waverly in 1962 and went to work as a draftsman and designer at Deere & Company, Waterloo, for 30 years. Gordon retired from Deere & Company on April 30, 1993.
Gordon was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly. In his spare time, he enjoyed Colorado trout fishing, camping and traveling with Kathleen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen Franck of Waverly; his brother, Cleyon (Barbara) Franck of Newhall; and nephews and nieces, Randall (Elaine) Franck of DeWitt, Ronald (Joan) Franck of Newhall, Richard Franck of Cary, N.C., Rachel (Brian) Hanson of Decorah and Rhonda (Philip) Plourd of Cottage Grove, Wis.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Dorothy.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Matthew Versemann, Pastor Keith Brustuen and Pastor Gerald Kapanka officiating. Burial will be held in Saint Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery in Atkins at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19. Public visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for one hour before services Thursday at the church.
