Gordon Rollo Dierks, 72, died unexpectedly Memorial Day, May 29, 2017, at his home in Flagstaff, Ariz. There were no services.
His survivors include his wife, Cathy; his son, Brian and wife Kenya; grandson, Nickolaus (wife Kristen); granddaughter, Thairyn; and his daughter, Rachel. Also surviving are his sister, Cynthia "Cindy" (Kurt) Gunther; brother, Neil (Kristie) Dierks; sister-in-law, Saundra Dierks; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Errol; and his parents, Harry and Winnoa "Snooks" Harford Dierks.
Gordon was born July 26, 1944, in Monticello, Iowa, and was educated in Monticello Community Schools, graduating in 1963. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in economics and was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He married Cathy O'Connor in August 1966. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and after active duty served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, retiring as a commander after a career of over 30 years.
He worked in the fields of banking, manufacturing and aerospace and was currently employed in the contract negotiation group at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. He received an M.A. in accounting from the University of Vermont.
Gordon was membership chair (V.P.) of the Military Officers Association of America, Grand Canyon Chapter, at the time of his death. He enjoyed gardening, motorcycling and the Green Bay Packers.
Gordon's middle name was Rollo in honor of his uncle, Rollo Harford, who died in the Second World War. Gordon was born on the first anniversary of Rollo's death. Gordon continued to honor Rollo's memory throughout his life by his association with various veterans groups, and his military career was second only to his pride and devotion to his family.
