Gordinier, Dwight 'Ike' Eldon
Dwight “Ike” Eldon Gordinier, 83, went peacefully to be with the Lord April 11, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Hillside Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born May 5, 1928, in Rippey, Iowa, Ike was one of 10 children born to William Coe Gordinier and Verna (Thornburg) Gordinier. His playful sense of humor served him well in life. Ike was married in 1953 to the love of his life, Colleen Llewellyn. As a young man, he worked with his brother, Karl, on their father's milk route. Later he worked for Graybar Electric, Maytag, and Westinghouse Electric. Ike traveled to Haiti in the 1990s with his church group to provide missionary volunteer services to the needy. The trip was to last 10 days, but Ike stayed for a year. He always longed to return to continue lending a helping hand.
He treasured spending time with family, and especially kids. He also enjoyed spending time and taking adventures with his many friends. He was a lifelong member of the “Master Baiters” fishing group that took annual fishing outings in Minnesota.
Ike is survived by his brother, Ham Gordinier; son/daughter-in law, David (JoAnn) Gordinier; son, John Gordinier (significant other, Grace Clinton); daughter/son-in-law, Diane (Jack) Runge; grandchildren, Nicole, Brad, Jason, Sarah, Lena and Dejah; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Julia and Dakari, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Colleen; brothers, Bill, Kenny, Karl and Dean; and sisters, Val, Mary, Georgia and Eula.
He will be missed by all.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Hospice of Mercy of Cedar Rapids or Hillside Wesleyan Church.
The family would like to thank all of the care and support from Hospice of Mercy, the staff at Evergreen Estates, and Hillside Wesleyan Church.
