Goodell, Charles Edward
Charles Edward Goodell, 93, a longtime writer of editorial commentaries to The Gazette, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the nursing home.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Cedar Rapids; and a son, Ronald Goodell of Oak Creek, Wis.
Charles was born April 14, 1916, in Chicago, the son of William Sanford and Rosalie (Wipperman) Goodell. At age 12 he joined the Boy Scouts, working his way up through the ranks to Eagle Scout. On June 15, 1940, he married Loraine Hofbauer in Kenosha, Wis. They later divorced, and he married Ardella Bruns on June 17, 1967. She died May 15, 1995. In March 1997, he answered an ad in The Involvement magazine in Cedar Rapids, through which he met Dorothy Ruckle. They were married July 20, 1997. Charles lived and worked in Racine, Wis., and Dewey, Ariz., before moving to Iowa.
