Golay, The Rev. George H.
The Rev. George H. Golay, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Heritage Nursing Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at Cedar Rapids First Church of The Nazarene, conducted by the Rev. Timothy W. Carter. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
The Rev. Golay is survived by his wife of 60 years, Miriam Golay of Cedar Rapids; four children, Paul (Marianne) Golay of Appleton, Wis., Steven Golay of Cedar Rapids, Evangeline “Angie” (Mark) Kruszynski of Bloomington, Ind., and Timothy (Tammy) Golay of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Garvin of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edith Golay; seven brothers and sisters; a daughter, Joy Mareno; a grandson, Matthew Golay; and a great-granddaughter.
The Rev. Golay was born April 20, 1929, in Guilford, Mo. He obtained a bachelor's in divinity and master's in Biblical literature from Seattle Pacific College, Seattle, Wash. The Rev. Golay served as pastor in the Free Methodist denomination and as an evangelist for the Church of the Nazarene. He also worked for Underground evangelism and in the prison ministry.
