Gogel, Louis John
Louis John Gogel, 53, a resident of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at his home after a courageous battle with AML. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call Monday after noon, before the service. The Rev. Louis Leonhardt will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Morse Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to The Louis Gogel Memorial Fund.
Louis was born Dec. 26, 1958, in Huntingburg, Ind., the son of Jerome and Agnes (Seckinger) Gogel. Raised in Solon, Louie received his Ph.D. in engineering from Stanton University in California.
He will be dearly missed by friends and family.
He leaves behind his partner, Tracie Gogel; his mother, Agnes Gogel; his children, Jennifer (Brian) Johnson, Daniel (Bobbie) Gogel and David (Alicia) Brauer; grandchildren, Audra and Conner Johnson, Carson, Carter, Jayden and Adrianna Gogel; brothers and sisters, Reynold, Gerry, Keith and Gregg (Erica) Gogel; Valeria Schnor (Steven), Marla Hall (Jim), Gail Dunahoo and Donna Eliasen (Harry); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Gloria Gogel and Cynthia Gogel; and a sister-in-law, Kim Gogel.
