Goettsch, Verne 'Bud'
Verne “Bud” Goettsch, 93, of Monticello, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held 11:00 o'clock Saturday morning, May 21, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, with military honors. The Rev. Al Polito Jr. will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Anamosa.
Surviving are two children: daughter Marcia (Robert) Stark, Delray Beach, Fla., and son Michael (Pam) Goettsch, Monticello; five grandchildren, Shelly Starks, Laura (Ted) Chuckla, Greg Starks, Lisa (Mike) Adams and Corey (Cara) Goettsch; seven great-grandchildren, Kristina (Sean), Hunter, Katie, Kody, Madison, Trint (Erin) and Travis; two great-great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Sawyer; and brother, Harry F. Goettsch, Jefferson, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents; brothers, Robert and Cecil; and sisters, Doris H. and Francine.
Verne “Bud” Goettsch was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Gladbrook, Iowa, to Harry J. and Anna C. (Reisman) Goettsch. Verne graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1935. He married Marjorie A. Edwards in 1936. To this union they had two children, Marcia and Michael. Verne attended mortuary school in St. Louis, Mo., from 1939-1940. Bud served in the United States Army during World War II, serving as a surgical technician on Iwo Jima. Following his return from service Bud was associated with his brother, Cecil, in the Goettsch Funeral Homes until retirement in 1983. In 1990, Verne moved to Marion, and then worked as a volunteer at St. Luke's Surgicare for many years.
He was a former Rotarian and past president of the Anamosa Club. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Mount Sinai Chapter and Mount Olivet Commandery, a member of the El Kahir Shrine and Jesters and past president of the Iowa Funeral Directors. His favorite past time was playing golf at Fawn Creek with his many friends.
Verne “Bud” was so loved by everyone. His charm touched many lives in business and in his personal life. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
