Godfrey, Viola G.
CEDAR RAPIDS - Viola G. Godfrey, 99, of the Good Samaritan Center in West Union, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union after a short illness. Services: 3 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, June (Lester) Shogren of Clermont and Janice Reittinger of Atkins. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leslie (Kevin), Nicole (Tom), Trisha (Lee) and Erik; special grandchildren, Greg and Denise (Dean); and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Viola was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Nebraska City, Neb., the daughter of John and Nancy (Johnson) Rakes. She married Clarence A. Godfrey on Dec. 24, 1930, in Sidney, Iowa. He died in 1962. Viola was a homemaker and child care provider for many years.
She was an avid Cornhusker fan and enjoyed the time she spent with her beloved family and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to Boys Town in Omaha, Neb.
