Godar, Mary Dorothy (Pospishil)
Mary Dorothy (Pospishil) Godar, 85, formerly of Marion, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, April 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where a vigil service will begin at 2 p.m. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Mary was born April 1, 1926, the daughter of Ed and Florence M. (Postel) Pospishil in Martelle. She attended Mount Mercy Academy in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique in St. Louis, where she met her future husband, John Godar. They were married June 17, 1947, in Lisbon, Iowa.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother, and was a lifelong volunteer. She and John spent many years coordinating funeral dinners at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, where they were longtime members.
Survivors include 13 children, all of whom were her favorites: Terrance (Wanda) Godar of Pennsylvania, Catherine (Terry) Kauffman of Brattleboro, Vt., Maureen Godar of Hiawatha, Jane Godar (Mike) Kreiter of Overland Park, Kan., Ann (Joe) Nicholson of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Donna) Godar of Grinnell, Matthew (Margie) Godar of Houston, Texas, Theresa (Ken) Walton of Marshalltown, Luke Godar of Winthrop, Patrick (Cherie) Godar of Madison, Wis., Steve (Ann) Godar of Marion, Ed Godar of Marion and John (Colleen) Godar of Marion; 27 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; and a brother, Terry Pospishil.
