Gloria Mae Malatek, 59, of Ely, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2018, in her home. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Sulek Cemetery, near Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 to
7 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Gloria was born Jan. 12, 1959, in DeKalb, Ill., the daughter of Emil and Mary (Buchanan) Velky. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School, class of 1977. Gloria was united in marriage to Patrick Malatek on June 14, 1980, in Ely. Gloria worked for over 28 years at College Community schools. She enjoyed spending weekends at the family cabin, gardening, playing cards, trips to Florida, visiting casinos, babysitting her granddogs and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially Collin, Jade, Justin and Gaby. Gloria was a strong believer in Hugs For Healing and spread her love wherever she went.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Pat; her daughter, Jessica (Dan) Carter; her son, Brad (Kayla) Malatek, all of Ely; her grandchildren, Jade and Gaby Carter; special nephews, Collin and Justin Velky; siblings, Brian (Karrie) Velky, Charlie (Julie) Velky, Emil Velky Jr. and Cheryl Velky; brother-in-law, Tom (Pat) Malatek; sisters-in-law, Lois (Lloyd) Cooling, Sheryl (Allen) Tjelmeland and Sue (Jesse) Schulte; as well as her many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Donna Clark; and her mother and father-in-law, Marian and Robert Malatek.
