Glenn William Kurth, 88,
of Lisbon, died Sunday, March 4, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church,
Mount Vernon, by the Rev. Sean Hansen. Burial with military honors will follow
at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville
Glenn was born April 26, 1929, in rural Delaware County, the son of Walter and Sarah Marie (Bradke) Kurth. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. On Oct. 13, 1956, he married Betty Gene Harris in Mechanicsville. Glenn and Betty were proud farmers in the Mechanicsville area before retiring in 1990 and moving to Lisbon. Glenn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Busch-Dennis American Legion Post 309 of Mechanicsville. Glenn will be remembered as an avid bowler and for his passion in taking care of the land as a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Debra Kurth of Lisbon, Diana Pierce (David Derrick) of Athens, Ala., and Ron Kurth (Pinky) of Yokohama, Japan; grandchildren, Vince Pierce (Kristen), Zachary O'Connor and Heather Hann (Chris); and great-grandchildren, Monica and Brooklynn Pierce and Sierra Dugger. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Beverly Kurth and Waneta Kurth, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger Kurth; brothers, Don, Dean, Harold and Garold; and a sister, Lois Myers.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or a charity of the donors choice.
