Glen Thomas Sr., 80, of Martelle, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids after a short illness. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. June 18 at Forest Chapel Cemetery, rural Anamosa.
Surviving are five children, Bart, Brenda (Kevin) Kelchen and Glen Jr., all of Anamosa, Jason of Cedar Rapids and Jennifer (Brad) Vincent of Cotopaxi Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and 18, soon to be 20 great-grandchildren, who were all very special to him. Also surviving are two brothers, Jim (Fonda) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Frances (Jan) of Anamosa; four sisters, Mary Smith of Cedar Rapids, Gwendolyn Willard of Atalissa, Lorene (Willard) Clark and Judy Beckett of Anamosa; in-laws, Virginia (Ron) May and Jana (Ivan) Walker, both of Anamosa, Gerald (Cathy) Johnston of Pasco, Wash., and Margie (Dean) Husman of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Linda; his parents, Clarence and Mattie (Raymond); brothers, Tommy and Carl; sisters, Elizabeth Bunch, Naone Pavin and Doris; and three sons in infancy.
Glen worked in the construction field all of his adult life and was still considered one of the best carpenters in the business.
An avid fisherman, he spent most of his retirement years enjoying time fishing with his sons and grandkids. He loved spending weekends at his favorite place, Lake Sugema, with his grandson, Craig Soppe, and friends who he considered family: Dave, Andy and Jake Colehour, and anyone else they would allow to go along with them.
We will all miss our Dad and friend forever and always.
