He is also survived by five grandchildren, Benjamin (Carrie), Mitchell, Elizabeth and Lauren Glantz and David King; and nieces and nephews.
Warren was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Burlington, the son of David and Pearl Eklund Glantz. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1939 and proudly joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. He received his wings as a single engine fighter pilot and was a flight instructor in Waco, Texas until the end of World War II in 1945. Warren married Audree Vliet in 1945 and they were married for 43 years. They later divorced but remained good friends. He attended Coe College and transferred to the University of Iowa, where he graduated from the College of Dentistry in 1951. After completing dental school he took his internship at San Francisco Public Service Hospital from 1951-1952. He returned to Cedar Rapids in 1952 and set up a dental practice that lasted 37 years, retiring in 1989.
Over the years Warren was involved in many organizations: Cedar Rapids Dental Society, Kiwanis Club, The Salvation Army, Indian Creek Country Club and had a tee time at Elmcrest Country Club every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m. to play with his friends. He truly enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, field trials, golf, as well as hunting ducks and pheasants with his dogs, Dutch, Samantha and Jake. Warren took many fishing trips to Canada with his sons. He started his trips in 1955 with friends, then his sons and grandsons. Warren was an avid Hawkeye fan and a great supporter of Iowa athletics.
He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Warren was a very generous man who was blessed with a keen sense of humor, devotion to family and community and had a great zest for life.
Memorial donations may be given to The Salvation Army or the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
