Gladys A. Tschopp, 94, of Williamsburg, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Karl Heck officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the church, with a Scripture service at 6:45 p.m. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established.
Gladys is survived by her daughters, Marlys Stithem (Charles) of South Amana and Kella Jane Tschopp of Fairfield; a son-in-law, Robert Gerard of Libertyville; a granddaughter, Dorae Lynn Rippey (David) of Fairfield; and three great-grandsons, Dalton, Drake and Dallen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, A. Melvin Tschopp, in 1996.
Gladys Anna Adelheid Heitshusen was born May 27, 1920, in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Emma Maas Heitshusen. She graduated from the Marengo High School with the class of 1939, and married A. Melvin Tschopp on June 22, 1941, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. The couple farmed the Heitshusen Century Farm and the Tschopp Farm for many years.
Gladys loved her family and the farm animals, especially the cats, which at times numbered up to 40. She also enjoyed the square dancing group of which she and Melvin were members.
Gladys was an active member of her church, St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, and in earlier years, St. Paul Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran.
