Gladys was born Aug. 30, 1924, to Joseph A. and Tillie (Kosnar) Stadler at the family farm north of Chelsea. Gladys graduated from Chelsea High School. On Jan. 11, 1947, she married Paul "Pete" Schild. The couple moved to the Schild family farm south of Belle Plaine, where together they raised their two children.
Galdys was an exceptional farm wife and homemaker. She was very talented at many things, including crafts, crocheting and sewing making stuffed animals, prom dresses, suits and quilts. She enjoyed cooking and baking in which she was known for the best kolaches around. Gladys also spent her time refinishing furniture and decorating the house. Prior to her husband's passing, they enjoyed their time together traveling and playing cards.
Gladys had a love for small children and babies; she was the happiest when there were children around.
She always will be remembered for her unconditional love for the whole family.
She was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club.
Gladys is survived by her children, Linda (Ken) Kaiser and Scott (Joan) Schild, both of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Molly and TJ Schild, Bill (Rachel) Kaiser, Bridget Kaiser and Janell (Richard) Breck; five great-grandchildren; and many more nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bernice Dvorak; and brother, Joseph S. Stadler.
The family would like to thank Karl Holmes and the staff at UnityPoint Clinic-Belle Plaine, Care Initiatives Hospice and Belle Plaine Specialty Care Center.
