GLADYS L. MAYNARD
Coralville
Gladys L. Maynard, 108, of Coralville, formerly of Des Moines, died at her home Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018.
Gladys L. Corderman was born March 31, 1909, in Swift County, Minn., the daughter of John and Edith L. Corderman. Following graduation from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, she attended Drake University. In 1928, she married Alvin Maynard in Atkin, Minn. The couple made their home and raised their family in Des Moines. They also owned and operated the Maynard Printing Co. for over 50 years, before retiring in 1981. Their business was the true meaning of a family-owned business, as both Gladys and Maynard worked hard in this, but so did their three children! Gladys also was involved in numerous civic groups, and was a very active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Her husband, Alvin, died in 1990. She later moved to Coralville to be near her daughter and family.
Her family includes her daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Daniel Hug of Coralville; son and his wife, Charles and Diane Maynard of Syracuse, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her daughter, Marilyn Lee; grandson, Martin; and siblings, David Corderman and Kay Lang.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Coralville United Methodist Church, followed by a reception. There will be a time of visitation at the church one hour prior to the services and following the services during the reception. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
