Gladys Lucille Cubbage, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Manor Care. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. Burial will be in Dougherty Cemetery near Dougherty. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. rosary.
Gladys was born March 24, 1920, in Dougherty, the daughter of Edward and Beaulah (Clark) Dougherty. Gladys was united in marriage to Harold Knoll in 1938. They lived and farmed in Dougherty, where they raised their six children until 1962, when she moved to Cedar Rapids. She was later united in marriage to William D. Cubbage in Cedar Rapids. She lived and worked in Cedar Rapids for over 40 years as a beauty operator.
Gladys was a proud volunteer for over 20 years at Mercy Medical Center. She was an excellent seamstress, writer and enjoyed making family albums. Gladys was proud of her Irish background as well as being from Dougherty, her family's hometown. She has been a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church since moving to Cedar Rapids.
Gladys is survived by her children, Barbara "Bobbie" Wihlm of Cedar Rapids, Gerald "Jerry" Knoll of Auburntown, Tenn., Daniel "D.J." Knoll of Ely and Mary Heffern of Shoreview, Minn.; two grandchildren, Kristen Leigh Knoll and Alisa Lynn Cull, both of Nashville, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Jesse Cull and Jacob Cull.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Cubbage; her son, Richard "Dick" Knoll; an infant daughter, Laura Lynn; and her brother, Clark (Maurice) Dougherty.
