Gillmore, Christopher 'Gilly'
Christopher “Gilly” Gillmore, 48, died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. The Rev. Darryl Larson will officiate at the services.
Chris is survived by his wife, Marcy; his three children, Nathaniel, Cassie and Caleb; his mother, Rose Gillmore, Monticello; two sisters, Vicki (Darrell Taylor) Gillmore, Monticello, and Michelle (David) Hosch, Hopkinton; a brother, Kurt (Tammy) Gillmore, Monticello; his best friend, Dennis Blunt; his father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Barb Catlett; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Chris (Jeff) Tjaden, Jody (Bryan Lovell), Angie (Jon) Osterkamp.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Gillmore on June 29, 2009.
Christopher Wayne Gillmore was born July 14, 1963, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa, the son of Bruce and Rose (Lubs) Gillmore. Chris graduated from Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1982. He was employed at C & L Dryer in Monticello for many years, starting in high school and working part time after he had started working at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. Chris married Marcy Catlett on Sept. 28, 1996, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He had been employed at the penitentiary since December 1983. He was currently production coordinator at Iowa Prison Industries, where he was respected by his co-workers.
Chris was a Green Bay Packer fanatic. He also enjoyed racing of all kinds. He currently raced in the Midwest Jalopy Racing Series and had raced go-carts. Chris was also an avid bowler, bowling a 299 and 300 game. He also enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, playing cards and horseshoes. Chris was always ready to help a friend and continued that giving by being a tissue donor at his death.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
