Gillam, Genevieve Katherine 'Gen' Oakley

Genevieve Katherine “Gen” Oakley Gillam, 91, of Snellville, Ga., formerly of Marion and Cedar Rapids, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Ashton Hall, with her devoted daughter, Barbara, by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Gillam; and her granddaughter's husband, Charles Parker.

She is survived by two daughters, Janis Pereira and husband Tom of Vernon, Vt., and Barbara Petersen of Loganville, Ga.; son, Bob Gillam of Clarence, Iowa; four grandchildren, Todd and Gina Pereira, Scott and Tina Soper, Mark Pereira and Sheridan Parker; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Gillam, Marty Gillam, Joshua Soper, Jonah Soper, Tye Pereira, Riley Pereira and Max Pereira; two brothers, Steve and Virginia Oakley and Stanley and Helen Oakley; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Always wearing a smile, Mrs. Gen's sweet spirit never failed to bring joy to those around her. She adored her family, and that love was second only to her love of the Lord who now holds her hand.

A visitation celebrating the life of Mrs. Gen Gillam will be held Monday, July 25, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. Mrs. Gillam will be sent to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52406 for a graveside service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Snellville Building Fund, 2400 Main St. East, Snellville, GA 30078 in memory of Genevieve Katherine Gillam.
