Gilbert Lee Eaton was born May 30, 1975, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Gilbert Gene Eaton and Kathy (Allen) Kiefer. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1993 and continued his education at Kirkwood Community College to become a software developer. On Jan. 30, 2009, Gil was united in marriage to Virginia Silva in Littleton, Colo. They have an amazing 8-year-old son. He lived most of his adult life in the Denver, Colo., area and recently moved to St. Charles, Mo.
Gil enjoyed being outdoors, camping, canoeing, motocross and bike riding. He was an adventure seeker and lived life to the fullest. He was smart, kind and wonderfully unique. He was admired and looked up to by many. Gil died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, in St. Cloud, at the age of 41 years.
Gil is survived by his wife, Virginia; and son, Nathaniel Eaton of St. Charles; his parents, Kathy Keifer of Richmond and Gilbert Gene Eaton of Conifer, Colo.; his grandfather, L.B. Eaton of Iowa City; a sister, Joanna (Chad) Eaton of North Liberty; a stepsister, Joy Gardner of Bowling Green, Ky.; three nieces; and two nephews.
Gil was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Ruth Allen and Luetta Eaton; his grandfather, Lee Allen; and his aunt, Karen Henderson Allen.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Pastor Floyd Yutzy will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. A memorial fund has been established for Annie's Hope: St. Louis Bereavement Center for Young People. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Gil and his family.
