Gilbert Ambrose “Gib” Hoffmann, 99, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was born on April 24, 1925, in Dyersville, the son of Leo and Dorothy (Burlage) Hoffmann. Gib attended country school south of Manchester and earned a dime a week for stoking the woodstove each morning to heat the school. Gib served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On June 1, 1954, Gib was united in marriage to Maureen Kinney at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Winthrop. Five children were born to this union. Gib was a lifelong farmer. After his retirement, he worked for the City of Manchester Parks and Recreation and the Manchester Cemetery Board, thoroughly enjoying maintaining the grounds.
Gib was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He distributed Communion to the homebound, was an usher, and participated in all the church festivals. Gib was a proud member of the Manchester American Legion and the VFW. He was also a member of the Delaware County Cattlemen’s Association. Gib enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, horses, and golfing. He always enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Gib loved and cherished his family and enjoyed spending time with them and his friends.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Maureen Hoffmann of Manchester; five children, Cheryl (Dave) Andrews of Franklin, Wisconsin, Ronda Hoffmann of Iowa City, John (Lorie) Hoffmann of Manchester, Barb (Jon) Harms of Marion, and Bev (Brent) Long of Robins; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hoffmann; and many nieces and nephews.
Gib was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Louise (Cyril) Drees; and two brothers, Joe Hoffmann and Bob (Elaine) Hoffmann.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 11, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Manchester, Iowa, with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, in Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church on Friday.
Interment with Military Rites: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester, Iowa.
