Gienapp, Paul
Paul Gienapp, 86, of Hopkinton, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at First United Church of Hopkinton with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Shinkle will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving are five children, Michael (Carmon) Gienapp of Hopkinton, Paula (Gary) Reynolds of Monument, Colo., Timothy (Rhonda) Gienapp, Morgan Hills, Calif., and Brenda (Lee) Ireland and Lisa Sibel, both of Hopkinton; a son-in-law, Tom Stramer of Anderson, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; none great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Smith of Delhi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; a daughter, Sandra Stramer; two grandsons, Scott and Allen Stramer; and three sisters, Velma Lubben, Pauline Saunders and Dorothy Little.
Paul Junior Gienapp was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Union Township, Delaware County, Iowa. He was the son of Paul and Elva Culdice Gienapp. He received his education in the Moss Hill rural school and graduated from the Delhi High School with the class of 1941. Paul went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. Paul Gienapp married Doris Wilson on August 17, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hopkinton. The couple farmed the Gienapp family farm in Union Township, near Hopkinton. Paul retired from active farming in 1979. He then went to work as an insurance adjuster for Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. Paul was an active member of the United Church of Hopkinton where he was still serving on several committees. He had served on the Maquoketa Valley School Board, the Leonox Acers Board and the Hopkinton Lions Club. Paul made several mission trips to Mexico with the Fellowship of Christian Farmers. He had also participated in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
