Gibson, Norma
Norma Gibson of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010, following a long illness.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel, 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 Second Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, where the Rev. Richard Reed will preside. Funeral arrangements and services provided by Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include husband of 44 years, Olen E. Gibson of Blue Springs, Mo.; sons, Mitchell D. Gibson of Alpharetta, Ga., and Olen L. (Tamera) Gibson of Miramar, Fla.; grandchildren, Brianna and Ty Gibson of Miramar, Fla., brother, Bobbie (Ruth) Brewster of Cedar Rapids; aunt, Anna Mae Ray of Cedar Rapids; brother and sister-in-law, James and Paulette Clark of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Delores Davis of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Landy Waller III, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Delores Becicka of Cedar Rapids.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Minnie Brewster; and brother, Joe Brewster of Cedar Rapids.
Norma was born on Sept. 22, 1944, in Somerville, Tenn. She married Olen Gibson on August 20, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. Olen is also a native of Cedar Rapids.
She graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1962, and she attended Kansas City Kansas Community College. Norma was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, Mo., before her illness.
Norma enjoyed reading, decorating her home and had a passion for gardening.
The family would like to acknowledge Norma's special friends, Marilyn Getz, with whom Norma enjoyed going to the movies, sharing recipes and social events. The family also wants to thank another special friend, Carol Houck.
Norma also liked spending hours on the phone talking with her many friends.
Norma was especially proud of her family and loved her grandchildren. She had a big heart for her two dogs, Joy and Max, who could do no wrong.
