Gibbs, Ethel Lorraine
ETHEL LORRAINE GIBBS
The daughter of Joseph and Hannah Steffen Mohr, Ethel Lorraine Gibbs was born May 29, 1920, at Graf, Iowa, where she grew up and attended grade school. Gilbert Gibbs and Ethel were united in marriage on July 4, 1936, at Graf, Iowa. To this union were born eight children, Alan, Judy, Rusty, Susy, Janice, Tim, Tom and Scott. They farmed near Graf and Dundee, until moving into the town of Dundee in 1954. Gilbert entered into his eternal rest on May 22, 1973. Health issues caused Ethel to move to the Edgewood Convalescent Home in 2002.
Ethel was a former member of the Dundee Women's PTA, attended Dundee Senior Citizen's Mealsite, taught CCD classes at St. Mary's of Lamont and was a member of St. Mary's Rosary Sodality. Being a life long die hard St. Louis Cardinals' fan, she enjoyed many games at Busch Stadium at St. Louis.
At the age of 93 years, Ethel entered into her eternal rest on Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe and Hannah Mohr; her husband, Gilbert; her son, Alan; grandson, Doug Gibbs; great-granddaughter, Brandi Bond; two brothers, Leonard and Lewis; and four sisters, Regina Schmitt, Mary Becker, Maggie Goetzinger and Alice Schmidt.
She is survived by four sons, Rusty (Vicki) Gibbs of Lamont, Tim (Barb) Gibbs of Peoria, Il., Tom (Becky) Gibbs of Dundee and Scott (Elaine) Gibbs of Dundee; three daughters, Susy (Alfred) Hotchkiss of Lamont, Janice (Dan) Langel of Dundee and Judy (Larry) Gaffney of Waterloo; 24 grandchildren; 42 great- grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Edgewood, Iowa with Father Stephen Nordgren officiating. Interment will be in St. Albert's Cemetery at Lamont. Friends may call for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Fawcett Funeral Homes and Cremation Services of Lamont are assisting the family with arrangements.
