Gertrude Clara (Duttlinger) Stelpflug (a.k.a. "Grandma Pretty"), 95, died in her sleep at home of natural causes on April 27, 2016.
Gertrude was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Iowa City. For 45 years she lived in the desert of Indio, Calif., where she and her former spouse owned and operated a little hamburger shop named "Bimbos" until illness brought her to Iowa to be cared for by her loving daughter and granddaughter in their home eight years ago.
Gertrude lived a full life and enjoyed family, friends, genealogy and knitting booties to keep generations of feet warm and snuggly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clark Stelpflug; her son, John; and longtime friend, Herb Nunnally.
She was the last surviving sibling of seven children born to Mary (Mamie) Swaner and Andrew Duttlinger.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Susan K. Welty; grandchildren, Sheleen Krieger (Bob), Laura Pelechek (John), Sheryll Untiedt (David) and John Welty (Melissa); great-grandchildren, Matt Untiedt (Carissa), Abby Keesy (Tom), Nick and Jordan Welty, Saige and Tessa Turner and Jenna Pelechek; and great-great- grandchildren, Brooks Untiedt and Olivia Keesy.
A private celebration of life with close family members was held following her death.
