Gertrude Folkerts, 101, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018, at the Anamosa Care Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at the First Congregational Church, Anamosa, with interment in the Cass Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Pastor Rodger Good will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Gertrude and her family into their care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Surviving are two children, Don (Marg) Folkerts of Anamosa and Lucea (Larry) Ledenbach of Lisle, Ill.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy in 2003; and four siblings, Helen Murray, Carolyn Hall, George Brown and Russell Brown.
Gertrude Lucea Brown was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Cass Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Burton and Eunice Hanna Brown. Gertrude graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools in 1934. Gertrude Brown and Roy Folkerts were married on Sept. 14, 1940, at the Anamosa Methodist Church Parsonage. Gertrude worked in the Jones County Auditor's Office for several years. She later moved to the Jones County Clerk of Courts Office where she was a deputy clerk for 22 years. She was elected as the Clerk of Court for and served four years before retiring in 1980.
Gertrude was a member of the First Congregational Church. She was the financial secretary for the church for many years. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary and Bible study as well. Gertrude and Roy love to go dancing whenever possible.
