Gerold “Jerry” Dean Schierholz, 92, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at The Silver Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Marion, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jerry was born on July 25, 1931, in Luana, Iowa, the son of Irving and Iowa (Wilkins) Schierholz. He was a 1949 graduate of Monona High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. On October 1, 1955, Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Petrak in Marion. After he attended radio and TV school, Jerry then joined Northwestern Bell Telephone, which was then changed to Century Link, where he retired from in 1985. He was an avid wood carver and was a member of the Northeast Iowa Wood Carvers and the Cedar Valley Wood Carvers. He was also a member of the Marion American Legion. Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jerry is survived and lovingly remembered by his son, Steven Dean Schierholz of Marion; three grandchildren, Lacy McCullough, Tyler Dean Schierholz, and Colbie Diane Schierholz; sisters, Wanda Check; sisters-in-law, Beverly Trimble and Christine Petrak; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of nearly 67 years, Barbara; a daughter, Jeannine M. Schierholz; sisters, Fay (Louie) Marfilious and Beverly Suckow; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Trimble and J.C. Petrak.
Memorials in Jerry’s memory may be directed to the donor’s choice.
