Geraldine "Jeri" L. Young, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Cedar Memorial's Certified Celebrant Julie Freese officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include children, Rick (Dallis) Young of Grove, Okla., Shannon (Rod) Bartlett of Solon and Kenneth (Deb) Young of Atkins; grandchildren, Raymond (Lee) Young, Miranda (Paul) Niemi, Alicia
(Tony) Clark, Jon (Mariann) Ryan and Sara Young (significant other, Mike Bates); great-grandchildren, Cody and Courtney Young, Abby and Landon Niemi, Nicholas and Eli Ryan and Emma Young; and special niece, Rita (Orville) Walter.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald; parents; infant son, Mark Young; three sisters; and three brothers.
Geraldine L. Young was born July 29, 1928, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the beloved daughter of Roy and Bertha Thompson Klein. She was united in marriage to Ronald Young on July 10, 1947, in Marengo, Iowa. Jeri worked at Rockwell Collins for 27 years. She enjoyed fishing, black jack, painting, cooking, Wii Bowling and being a part of a bowling league. She was a loving mother,
grandmother and friend of many and will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the memorial fund established in Jeri's honor.
A special thanks to the staff at Respiratory & Critical Care Associates and St. Luke's Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit for their tender care given to Jeri.
