Gerry Schwartz, 84, long-time resident of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 10, 2017. A private memorial service will be held. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Survivors include her brother, Mike Slaybaugh; her children, Paula Cufr of Milton, Fla., Lisa McNeill of Adel and Lonnie Schwartz of Solon; grandchildren, Heather Roberson, Lance Cufr, Benjamin McNeill, Lucas Schwartz, Levi Schwartz, Lauren Schwartz and Lincoln Schwartz; great-grandchildren, Micah Roberson, Skylar Cufr and William McNeill; and nieces, Michelle Slaybaugh and Megan Slaybaugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, husband and sister.
Gerry was born June 11, 1932, in Laverne, Minn., the daughter of Paul and Hazel (Gorrie) Slaybaugh, and stepmother, Evelyn Slaybaugh. She married Norbert Schwartz on Sept. 7, 1952, in New Ulm, Minn. Though she was mostly a homemaker, she also worked as a teacher's aide and an activities worker at a care center.
She was a member of Living Hope Wesleyan Church. Along with her husband, Norb, she belonged to an antique co-op in Marion and an RV club. She loved her pets, Christmas, gnomes and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
