Geraldine Lee (Winn) Whited passed to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. She was born September 21, 1935, to Edward and Rose (Otjen) Winn of Carroll, Iowa, the third of eleven children. She graduated from Carroll High School in 1954. She married Robert Short on September 15, 1956. They had two children and moved to Cedar Rapids. Later they divorced.
Geri worked more than thirty years at Rockwell Collins. She was active in her church. She was a great witness for Christ and not afraid to help others.
She married Ralph (Don) Whited on April 12, 1987. After retirement they enjoyed visiting family and friends, traveling as well as keeping a picture-perfect lawn. She also had great adventures with her grandchildren.
The following preceded her in death: her daughter, Marcella Short; parents, Ed and Rose Winnl sisters, Lois Winn and Mary Cota; brothers, Donald, Marion, Glen, and Jim Winn; brothers-in-law, Delbert Anderson, Dennis Reis, Tom Cota, and Jerry Gute; and sister-in-law, Donna Blackwell.
Left to mourn her passing are her son, Mark (Joni) Short; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian Visser) Eilers, Jessica (Daniel) Hepworth, and Dan (Mary) Short; great-grandchildren, Lars and Leighton Eilers, Alton, Thomas, and Margaret Hepworth, and Amelia and Camille Short; sisters, Arlene Anderson, Corinne Gute, Gloria Reis, and Georgia Schmickle; sisters-in-law, Delores Winn and Phyllis Winn; brother-in-law, Steve Schmickle; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, 1228 2nd Street SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401, from 2-3:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at New City Church at 11:00 a.m.
