GERALDINE "JERRY" P. VAN DEE
North English
Geraldine "Jerry" P. Van Dee was born Sept. 26, 1930, in Holbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Joseph and Daisy Marie (Cobb) Johnston. She attended Parnell High School. On Feb. 23, 1949, Jerry was united in marriage to Donald Joseph Van Dee in Holbrook. They lived in Armah, Green Valley, Kinross and the North English communities. Together they farmed and owned and operated Don & Jerry's Cafe in North English. She enjoyed bowling, playing softball, dancing, camping and spending time with her family. Jerry died Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the Oskaloosa Care Center at the age of 87 years.
She is survived by her children, Connie Greene of Cedar Rapids, Debbie Bombei of Oskaloosa and Terry "Butch" Van Dee of North English; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded by her parents; husband, Donald; and an infant daughter, Barbara.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Powell Funeral Home in North English. Pastor Luke Caster will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Little Creek Cemetery, near Kinross. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established.
