Geraldine M. Grimm, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Rick (Rachel) Grimm and Bob (Katharine Lee) Grimm; three daughters, Joni (Mark) Perry, Sue (Warren) Thomas and Jackie Svetly (Dean Stumbo); 13 grandchildren; and six great-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Grimm; two stillborn children; parents; sister, Betty (Nate) Walker; brothers, Bud (Bev) Weaver and Duane (Yvonne) Weaver; grandson, Scott Svetly; and son-in-law, Gary Svetly.
Geraldine was born May 29, 1922, in Anamosa, the daughter of Earl and Marie Hughes Weaver. She graduated from Marion High School in 1940. She married Harold L. Grimm on Aug. 31, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. Harold passed away in 1971.
Geraldine worked at J.C. Penney, Woolworth, Collins Radio, food service in Cedar Rapids schools, and was the dessert baker at Jefferson. She was a charter member of Hobby Club and Immanuel Baptist.
She was a big Hawkeye fan who made her kids go to Iowa State. Geraldine loved to read, sew, play cards and bake cookies, but mostly she loved spending time with her family and friends.
At 91 years, she conquered the iPad and loved watching the sporting activities across the street from her house. She was a very independent lady who lived at home and was still driving at 92.
